Great news for travelers, free prepaid cards in India are handed to tourists on arrival.
For many years, tourists had to endure mind-boggling bureaucracy simply to get a mobile number in India. Fortunately these days are over for visitors using electronic tourist visas.
Having a mobile phone is not only an enormous convenience, but can be a life-or-death matter for tourists in India and any country around the world. But till recently India, with its overwrought bureaucracy, has made it notoriously difficult to get a SIM card, for no particular reason at all. Instead tourists were left dependent on dodgy phone booths, or had to waste a lot of time trying to get their SIM cards approved.
The free SIM card on arrival is valid for 30 days, and will have prepayed talk time and data, but no international roaming facility.
